One annoying thing about being heavy one the foot pedals is that either the pedal it self slides and twists or you kick the bass drum so hard the entire drum skates across the floor, leaving you in no man lands during a performance. There are various methods you might like to try as possible solutions for this on various floor surfaces.

  • Tape the bass drum & kick pedal into position.
  • Tie the bass drum to the snare stand and floor tom.
  • If you've got a rack system it's personally best to just clamp each kick to it.
  • If you've got a drum riser you can always make special holders on it designed for your kits footprint.
  •  Tie or Tape (have a bracket made if you have too) your double pedal to your hi hat stand.

The Hi hat can be another source of frustrating sliding problem at times, I have seen some guys who have mastered the pull back motion with their left leg, which is nice an visual but personally it's not for me.  So here are some possible solutions you might like to try out.

  • Tape it firmly to the floor, around the base of it's legs and at the base of the foot board.

  • Tie/Tape your all of your pedals together, I.e. Double Bass or Second Cable Hi Hat.

  • If you've a rack system, clamp it on there.

  • If you don't have a rack you can always clamp the hi hat to a cymbal stand or tom stand, I've seen this done and it becomes something of a mini rack so to speak.

  • If you've got two bass drums and no rack system, you can leave the legs up and make a bracket to clamp it firmly to the bass drum, or run an extension from the tom holder to the Hi Hat. This works well for me.  A quick option is to just tie/ tape it the the base tuning pegs.

OK, I know a lot of this seems obvious and even trivial to some, but for some reason ?, I had to learn a lot of these lessons the old fashion way, by making those same stupid mistakes, over and over, and I'll bet I'm not the only one..

Personally, If you want to play at your best, you need to be comfortable with not only the musical demands but your physical playing environment also....So, it might seem trivial, but it's still important.
